Towards Spiritual Mastery

Time has flown by since my last entry. I’m a tad embarrassed, but not too much. Flown but not wasted. I published my second book, now available on Amazon – The Model of Man: A Christian Theory of Everything. Check out the work section of this site.

Anyway, I’ve been gravitating toward the concept of spiritual mastery. Maybe the Lord has been directing my path. I certainly hope so.

In Mark 9, Jesus and his trusted few, the insider disciples, had come from the mount of transfiguration where they had gotten an early peek of Jesus in his glory. In the next recorded event, a dispute arose among the people because the disciples were unable to cast a demon out of a little boy. In essence, the people complained because the disciples could not do what Jesus could. Maybe the people expected too much from the disciples of Jesus. Think about our current state. Does the world expect much of the current crop. They think we’re broken. Why? Well, we proclaim our brokenness like orthodoxy (as if the blood doesn’t matter).

But what does Jesus think?

The boy’s father said, “I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”

Jesus replied, “You unbelieving generation, how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

We see Jesus, frustrated with the team. Why?

Maybe His team, present company included, should have been a little further down the road by now.

Maybe the advantage of having Jesus around could have sped up their development.

Maybe the advantages of the New Testament writings coupled with the Holy Spirit could have moved the spiritual needle further in our own lives.

Maybe disciples then and now, could develop a greater measure of Spiritual Mastery to be productive during moments that matter.
